God grew tired of us

I am watching God Grew Tired of Us. Wow. I am so moved, especially when the Dinka man and his tall glass of chocolate self. He talked about the young boys of Sudan that came to the United States. I am amazed at the men who believe that people who do not know their culture are like humans without land.
I complain every day about what is wrong. But,  this film really made me feel like I was complaining about NOTHING. To be persecuted for being Black and Christian is crazy. Whey Black churches helping out? I am so confused sometimes I just want to stop complaining and stop gossiping because it is not helping ANYONE! I just cant imagine being separated from my children by force. The women is rejoicing to God in the airport in front of over 30 people. She does not care. That's how I want to be. I feel so proud to be African and American. I am so proud to say that I have not forgotten who I am and my ancestors.

Here are my babies.

Sounds of Blackness: Optimistic

John and I at Cilla's Wedding

Jalise waiting for President Obama to speak at Georgetown University

Jalise is more excited to ride a scooter than to hear Pres. Obama

Ledo's Pizza in Bethesda knows how to make a family feel special!

Presidente!
I really love sharing my pictures with my family and friends. My life is so filled with joy. Only God knows! Okay so a few pointers:

A. Fill out your own taxes if you can. I have learned a lot about government just by filling out my taxes and I've been filling it out for the past 4 years! I am no accountant, but with practice comes perfection.
B. Ask and ye shall receive. Not what you want or are asking about is neither here nor there sometimes. But, few people willingly give free information ,i.e. gov't, school system, middle class, rich,  hustlers, etc. Everyone knows something. Your job is to use the knowledge and mistakes of other people to your advantage.
    C. Cable is not your friend! Why you are sitting there laughing at Martin/ RHOA, or Basketball Wives, I am watching it free on the internet! HAH! Read a book read a book read a motherloving book. Go to the library. You pay for the library in taxes anyway.

D. Want a job? Create one. Before desegregation, communities were filled with ethnic stores that promoted business among "ordinary people." now we all shop at wal-mart and CVS. damn shame. There is nothing wrong with those chains. But, invest in yourself first.

Revisiting the past

What do you do when you are rejected from a person, organization, school, etc?
Do better and be better. I have been rejected from a plethora of organizations, people, (never schools Thank God) and other trivial things. It hurt for a second, a day, a month, and sometimes years. But, I am made in the image of God, meaning I believe in revenge! lol
My version of revenge is simply performing better! Ok i am not in the fittest shape so I obviously cannot beat them in a running contest. But, I can be more involved, I can help my professors out more!
I have the best internship known to man. It is like the Lord looked down and said "Here this is just for you" My boss is looks like the Ethiopian version of Hill Harper! East African Pride is taking over Washington!
I love the fact that college students are influenced by rap. I love to hear a white anglo saxon in his late 20s saying"My back man," which really translates into "I am sorry that I offend you. But, please forgive me." Why are we so critical of ebonics, maybe because it has infiltrated the corporate world and the white world. Even oreos (black on the outside but white on the inside) uses the most common forms of black american vernacular, with terminology like "hateration" and "holla". I love it! The best form of flattery is imitation.

FYI, I went to a networking luncheon, and saw a man that looked like an austin powers character. EWW

Jobs Edition

There is nothing I like more than looking up jobs and internships (yeah right). So, here are some for those unemployed misfits!

1. USAJOBS.gov
The government is super hard to get into, unless you have connections. But, there are some jobs that are great for students, i.e.
http://jobview.usajobs.gov/GetJob.aspx?JobID=95852580&JobTitle=Cooperative+Education+Student+-+Probation+and+Pretrial+Services&q=student&where=20854&x=91&y=18&brd=3876&vw=b&FedEmp=N&FedPub=Y&AVSDM=2011-01-28+14%3a51%3a00
The Co-op pays $13 dollars an hour. That is more than the Assistant managers at Walgreens, McDonald's, and other places that makes a high school dropout wish they went to college.
2. Pernod Ricard
Don't know Pernod Ricard? You may and not know it. I love Bahama Mamas and Malibu Coconut Rum is owned by Pernod Ricard. Liquor never goes bankrupt even in  a recession, just like prostitution. This job could also offer you worldwide travel!
Pernod Ricard Americas Travel Retail
777 Westchester Ave
10604 White Plains NY
UNITED STATES OF AMERICa
http://www.pernod-ricard.com/en/pages/2945/pernod/Carrieres/Rejoindre-le-Groupe.html
3. Dole
My brother is obsessed with pineapples! And, who distributes more pineapples in the United States than Dole? The idea is to look around you for employment. If a product is great enough to consume and buy, work at their company!

4. Democratic National Committee/ Republican National Committee (GOP)
If some place doesn't have a job available, intern DUH! Prove your own capability. Then when a job does open up, you know who to talk to and then you will have a better chance.
http://my.democrats.org/page/s/contact_internships

5. Avue Central
Another great website that the Government uses to tease your with decent jobs. This job is for students only and pays $12.35

6. Utilities Companies
Here in the D.C. area, PEPCO reigns supreme! So, go get a job there! They don't always hire electricians or engineers either! So, go run and get you bills and type those companies into google.
pepco.com
7.  Google/ Yahoo
Speaking of Google, Internet companies make BANK! Also known as money money money. So, next time you are on a website searching for your next research paper, go to the career sections and see what they have to offer.
google.com
yahoo.com
8. ConAgra Foods
So, the United States allows companies to slowly kill us through food (watch FOOD, INC). You might as well get paid for it. ConAgra is one of the largest food processing companies in the world. Like popcorn? They make. Love to chuck sunflower seeds? That's them also. So go find a job!

9. Pepsi
Addicted to Lays or Sun Chips? Apply for a job at Frito Lay, which is owned by Pepsi! You will probably receive free Pepsi while at work.

I hope this helps a million to my fellow recessionistas!

New Year NEw Hope

Today is Jalise's 3rd Birthday. Wow. I cannot believe that my princess is 3 years old. It is amazing how God controls time. If it was up to me or anyone else, my life would be a lot different right now . I cannot believe that sooo  much has changed within a 3 year time span. Nothing seemed to happen that quickly in high school. now im about to graduate (God willing) in December. I have two baby girls Jalise (bottom) and Jordan (top picture). I thought that I would not worry about camp. But, I do. I love the my girls going to camp. I pray to God it will be a blessing this year again.
This year will be difficult but it will bless our family ten fold. I am grateful to God  that He has brought john and i a long way , because Lord knows we were both out of our minds. But to God be the glory (i feel like the old mothers in the church right now).
SCLC is such an amazing gift to my life. This group is comprised of amazing women that I would and have trusted my children with. I am soo happy to know that I can close my eyes and there wouldnt be any knives in my back! I didnt think we would get soo much done, but we did it!
